Aurora Finds Her Mate

12

Aurora attempted to blow her hair out of her face with what little breath she had left. It didn't budge. The sweat that was dripping down her had plastered it to her head. Her lungs burned. Her legs were on fire. She was going to die. My god this is torture, she thought to herself as she kept her death grip on the inclined treadmill. She let go long enough to reach a hand over and hit the "stop" button. She wanted to collapse on the ground as she heaved heavy breaths, but the judging glance of a nearby slim ponytailed blonde in perfect, sweat free workout attire stopped her. On unsteady legs she walked over, grabbed a bottle of spray off the rack that the gym kept for wiping down the machines after use, and quickly swiped a towel over the hand grips.

As soon as she'd made her way into the empty (thank god!) locker room she sat down heavily on a bench. This was her second week attempting to work out at the local gym and it hadn't gotten any easier. Putting her hands on her thighs, she push herself up and stepped in front of one of the full length mirrors that lined the room's walls. Letting out a heavy sigh, she studied her reflection. What she saw didn't make her smile. The extra weight she carried on her hips, thighs and waist made for a chubby look, even on her 5'10'' frame. Her long hair, pulled back into a pony tail -- except for those chunks that had fallen into her face during the workout -- was a dull medium shade of brown. Her face was puffy and thanks to the treadmill time -- a bright shade of red. Her normally perky 38C breasts -- one of her only redeeming features in her mind -- were currently contained in a tight sports bra. Her ankles, though muscled, were far too thick and ended in pair of far too big size 11 feet.

The self-consciousness over her weight had galled her into joining the gym. She had been overweight and unhappy about it as long as she could remember. In her twenty six years she had learned that being the fat girl in the group was never fun and had missed out on a lot because of it. When other girls were out on dates with cute boys in high school, she had been home playing cards with her parents and their friends. She had been on dates with a couple boys in college, even losing her virginity to one after getting drunk at a party her roommate had dragged her to, but had spent far more time in the library. Since she had graduated with her business degree 4 years earlier, no guy had even shown enough of an interest to ask her out. She had thought about trying online dating, but frankly couldn't find a picture of herself that she though would compel any guy, even an internet guy, to want to date her.

The door swung open and another gym patron walked in. Aurora quickly retrieved her bag from a nearby locker and walked out of the gym. The hunger pangs struck before she had even made it out of the parking lot with her 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Along with her new gym membership she had tried to pick up a new diet. The diet message boards and blogs she had read online said that the cravings went away after the first couple weeks, but so far she wasn't seeing that happen. She wanted something sweet -- bad. The internal battle in her head waged until she finally gave in to the bad side and pulled into the new coffee shop which had gone up down the street from the gym.

She swore at her weakness as she locked up her jeep and headed through the shop's red-framed glass door. The shop smelled heavenly -- like strong coffee and fresh pastries. She was eyeing up a row of muffins in the glass case thinking about how she was about to undo all that treadmill torture in about 2 minutes flat when she saw him. He was tall -- at least 6'6'' with short jet black hair streaked with flecks of red, brown and blonde. His black t-shirt molded to his extremely broad shoulders and exposed tanned arms corded with muscle. His jeans stretched over long, strong legs. His eyes were an odd shade of coppery gold which sparkled as they bore into her. She felt her face flush with the intensity of his gaze.

********

He scented her before he saw her. The heady smell of her ...musky floral and spice....hit him like a ton of bricks. It was a scent that he had never smelled before, but that he instantly knew. Seeing her only confirmed what was already obvious. Her hair, a rich shade of coffee brown¸ was pulled back with little wisps escaping and framing her face. Her face shone with a slight shimmer of what appeared to be perspiration - her high cheekbones flushed a pretty shade of pink. Her eyes were a striking emerald green. Her curves....well...wow did she have curves....and her long legs looked like they went on for miles. She was the most gorgeous women he had ever seen and she was hot for him. That was a good thing he thought...since she was destined to be his for the rest of their lives. She was his mate.

"How can I help you?" the golden eyed man asked in a deep sultry voice.

She opened her mouth to respond, but found no words. "I...uhh...." She could swear he smirked a little, but couldn't tell for sure. She searched the bakery case frantically, trying to form an intelligent thought. "Um...uh....muffin?"

He raised an eyebrow at her and gave her a cocky grin, as if he knew what effect he was having on her. He looked like he was going to say something about her stuttering state, but surprised her instead. "Yes...a muffin. I'd say pistachio -- right? Green like those beautiful eyes of yours." Then he winked at her.

Those green eyes of hers nearly popped out of her head. It was almost as if he was flirting with her. She blushed an even deeper shade of red.

"Yes. You are a good guesser. Pistachio is my favorite."

"Perfect then." He turned to the counter behind him and pulled out 2 small plates. On one he placed her pistachio muffin. He reached back into the case picking out Red Velvet muffin and placed it on the other plate. Then, turning behind him again he selected 2 large coffee mugs and filled them from a nearby carafe.

He turned around, setting the mugs on the counter next to the plates. What was he doing? She looked around her to see if another customer was waiting behind her, but other than a few of the shop's employees on the other end of the counter, and a few teens sitting at a table in the corner, the shop was empty. She turned back to him, giving him a curious look.

He smiled at her. Damn was he hot. "Well I have good news and bad news for you."

"Oh?" She asked....unsure where this was going.

"Yes." He responded. "The good news is that your order today is on the house. The bad news is, you have to share it with me."

She stared at him stunned. He was definitely flirting with her ....actually this was almost a date he seemed to be asking her on. Are you on drugs? She wanted to ask, but instead she flirted back. "Well that sounds like a fair trade." She said...flashing him what she hoped was an engaging smile. She had no idea what affliction had struck him and caused him to propose the almost-date, but she wasn't one to look a gift horse in the mouth.

Mr. Golden eyes' smile broadened. "If you can take those plates, I'll bring the coffee."

She picked up the two plates and still barely able to believe what was happening, made her way towards a round table near the counter. It was a smallish table, but there were four chairs squeeze around it. She put the plates on opposite sites -- thinking he would sit across from her, and took the seat further from the counter.

Not skipping a beat, he put the mug in front of a chair right next to her, pulling the plate with the chocolate muffin over as he sat down.

The man carefully began pulling the wrapper from his muffin as Aurora watched him closely. He placed a small piece in his mouth. A bit of the chocolate stuck to the corner of his mouth. He raised his eyes to hers and sensually ran his tongue across the outside of his mouth, licking off the chocolate. This is the sexiest man I've ever seen she thought to herself. He oozed so much sensuality, he made her want to melt into a little puddle on the floor. She felt herself starting to get wet between her legs. She need to pull herself together or she'd embarrass herself her in front of this incredible man.

"So do I get to know the name of the man buying me breakfast?" she asked after realizing she didn't even know his name. She shifted in her chair, well aware that the longer she look at him the wetter she was getting. Her pussy burned with desire for this man she didn't even know. The man let out what she'd swear was a groan. She looked at him curiously.

"Krystian" he answered. "With a Kry...you know like Kryptonite." She giggled a little at the superman reference and he had to contain another groan. This woman was so freakin sexy. Her scent was even more prevalent now than when she walked into the café. As a wolf, his sense of smell was extremely acute, but the strength of this woman's scent was off the charts. When she'd spread open those long legs a second before he hadn't been able to contain the groan from coming out. He'd bet both his fangs she was wet. It was moments like this the wolf in him hated the human world. In the wild he'd have her bent over the table and be buried in her to the hilt by now.

"Krystian" she said softly and slowly as if trying it out on her tongue. The sound of his name had never made him hard before, but it did now, coming out of that rounded pink mouth. He thought about how it was going to look when those lips were wrapped around his cock and grew even harder.

"Yes. My friends call me Krys." He shifted a bit in his chair, looking uncomfortable. She wondered if he was regretting joining her at the table. She didn't think so though, not by the look on his face - like nothing she had ever seen on a man's face before. He looked like...well...like his wanted to sink his teeth in her...devour her. The wetness between her legs was starting to pool now. She was going to be lucky if she didn't stick to the chair when she stood up.

"Well Krys. Isn't your boss going to mind that you're giving away free food and letting one customer monopolize your time?"

"Not at all." The corner of his mouth quirked up in a smile. "The owner knows that there are some things far more important than business."

"Oh."

"Yes. Like when you see the most beautiful woman you've ever seen if your life, you have to capture her and not let her get away."

She rolled her eyes at that one. No matter how much desire he was shooting in her direction, she knew that one was a bunch of baloney. "I know this shop is new here, but you don't need to make up lines for business. You guys will do fine as is."

"Sweetheart. I know you don't know me very well, but when you do, you'll find out one thing about me. I don't make things up. I mean everything I say...always."

She wasn't sure what shocked her more, the certainty in his voice or the fact that he seemed to be absolutely certain that she would get to know him more. She did know what to say in response to that. He must have sensed it, because he brought the conversation back to a more innocuous topic.

"Actually, I own the café. We opened just a few weeks ago." His pride in ownership was obvious.

"Oh...really?" At hearing this the business side of her came out. "That's great. I'd love to hear about it more. I'm a private business and marketing consultant. I do a lot of work with new businesses around town."

"Really? How ironic is that? I was just thinking that we needed to get a marketing campaign going for the café, but wasn't sure where to start"

A detailed conversation on his experience in opening the business and her work ensued. This bled into her talking about her background. Her schooling. His background. What had led him to opening the café. Though there was still that thread of sexual tension in the air, they both really got into the discussion. He couldn't believe ther shy and beautiful package held such a smart and savvy business woman. She had everything a man could desire. He couldn't believe the fates chose such an amazing woman as his mate.

Aurora caught a look of the clock on the opposite wall. She was enjoying speaking with Krys so much that she hadn't realized they had been talking for almost 2 hours. The muffins and the coffee were long gone. The discussion had been amazing. They had so much in common and talking to him was fascinating. She loved the passion within new business owners and Krys had more passion that many. She really knew though that she should let him get back to that business

"Wow. I better let you get back to work. Thank you for the coffee and the muffins. I've really enjoyed talking to you."

Krys didn't say anything for a minute. Those golden eyes once again gazed, hunger filling them.

"Have dinner with me tonight" he said suddenly.

"You mean like a date?" There was no way to deny now that he liked her, was asking her out, but her brain still couldn't process that it was happening.

Krys grinned at her. "Yes. Like a date. You know...you get dressed up in something sexy...though it will be hard for you to make yourself any sexier. I take you out for a night on the town and show you off. Take you home and..." Though he didn't finish the last sentence, it was obvious that he didn't mean to take her home and leave -- the hunger in his eyes was stronger now than ever.

A pleasure filled shiver ran down Aurora's spine as she thought about what she'd like to happen when he brought her home. An image flashed through her mind. His strong hands on her naked breasts. His tongue running down her stomach. His cocking driving in her...her nails digging into a muscular back. The video playing through her mind was so vivid that it renewed the juices flowing from her pussy. She had to get out of here, fast, before she exploded with desire.

Looking at him, his golden eyes held fire and were....knowing....as if he knew what she had been thinking.

Krys could barely believe the scenes her mind was shooting into his. She couldn't know it, but his powers allowed him a little bit of talent to sense what others were thinking. Normally it was just a wisp of emotion -- sometimes thoughts or words running through someone's head. With her, it was full color pornographic video played out in detail. He cursed those damn human normalities again. What he'd give to have her out in the woods right now...naked.

She reached for her bag and made to get up from the table.

"You didn't answer my question...about dinner" He said softly.

She turned and flashed him a cheeky grin. "You didn't pose it in the form of a question. I didn't think it was an option." She reached into her purse. Pulled out a business card and held it out to him.

"I work out of my home. My phone number and address are on the card."

"I'll pick you up at 7." He said.

"I'll be ready." She thanked him again and turned to leave.

"And Aurora..." She turned at the sound of her name to listen to him. "Don't forget what I said. About wearing something sexy."

He turned and walked back behind the shop counter and through a set of swinging doors into what she assumed was a kitchen. She stood, mouth agape, for a minute before turning and walking out of the café to her jeep.

As she drove home, she replayed the morning events and still couldn't figure out what the hell had just happened and why. She had no illusions about her looks. While she wasn't completely unattractive her weight and the fact that she'd come straight from the gym...no makeup, sweat covered and flushed should not have resulted in an invitation on a date. Aurora wasn't completely lacking self-confidence...she knew she was smart and good at her job, a good friend and usually a pretty nice person. However, she was also a realist. Men who looked like Krys...especially ones that also happened to be smart, kind and who owned their own businesses were looking for super model types. Not business oriented overweight school teacher type or librarian type or whatever the hell type she looked like.

Maybe she had read the scenario wrong. Was he flirting with her because he was just a natural flirt and really getting to know her more because of her role as a business consultant? He had a new business after all. It would make sense.

Her phone buzzed as she was pulling the jeep into the driveway of her small ranch style home. She pulled it out of her purse expecting to see a message from her part-time assistant Marie. Instead a text message from an unfamiliar number greeted her. A new client perhaps? She opened it and read: "Hi beautiful. Can I pick you up at 6 instead of 7? I don't think I can wait that long to see those green eyes of yours again."

Well what was she supposed to do with that? Respond she guessed. She sent back a quick see you at 6, grabbed her bag and hustled into the house. Business dinner, date or whatever the night held, she had a lot of getting ready to do!

Krys ran his hands through his hair for about the 100th time. He was way out of his league standing in the florist shop surrounded by every kind of flower imaginable. What did you get for the woman who was your mate, your partner, and the person you were destined to be with ...well as long as you didn't screw it up? She had no way of knowing or understanding the whole wolf mating business and it wasn't like he could just tell her outright without freaking her out. He knew he'd have to woo her. He figured flowers were a good start but what kind of flowers best said Hey! We're going to spend the rest of our lives together -- okay?

He must have looked as lost as he felt, because a clerk took pity on him and - after a couple minutes of expert prodding into what he was looking for and the special woman he was trying to impress - was wrapping up a bundle of pale violet roses and brilliant lime chrysanthemums. It was just the kind of bouquet that spoke of Aurora...soft and beautiful while vivacious and bright. He thanked the clerk for her insight and the beautiful work before stepping out onto the street. He set the flowers gently on the passenger seat of his SUV before turning the key and heading for her house.

Aurora was looking as her reflection in the mirror again making sure her makeup was absolutely perfect for her date when the doorbell rang. She grabbed a shawl and her small clutch off of an end table and swung open the front door.

Krys was standing on her front step looking devastatingly handsome in a pale gray suit and pants. He didn't wear a tie -- instead opting to leave the first few buttons of his black dress shirt unbuttoned, revealing a tanned neck and just the tiniest wisp of dark chest hair peeking out the top. He was clean shaven and his jet black hard was spiked up a bit with some type of gel. He was holding flowers and he whistled softly as he looked her up and down.

"You look amazing" he said and meant it. Aurora had on a black cocktail dress. It was fitted at the top with a halter neck and an opening in the front that exposed a slight swell of cleavage. The skirt was flowy and ended just at her knees exposing creamy white calves which led to a pair of incredibly sexy feet covered with stilettos strapped up to her ankles and perfectly manicured red toenails. Her long hair was swept off to the side in some kind clip and spilled across her shoulder. Her scent was strong as ever making him want to bury his face in her neck and take a big whiff.

Aurora took the flowers Krys held out to her and invited him inside. "Let me just put these in some water," She called as she headed towards the kitchen. Krys stayed in the entry way looking around her house. It was neat and welcoming -- he liked it.

Aurora came out from the kitchen holding a vase and set the flower on the entry table. "Thank you so much for the flowers -- they're beautiful. Would you like a glass of wine before we leave?" she asked gesturing towards the sofa.
