Elizabeth's Eyes, Heart, and Soul

A wrinkle here and there again,
Her smile reveals a thousand tales.
How pretty she once must have been,
In comparison, others pale.

The deep blue of her happy eyes,
Expose the precious soul within.
And all the tears for those she cried,
While trying hard to comfort them.

From Europe as a girl she came,
With fear coming to a strange land.
The streets were paved with gold was claimed,
Hard work, luck for freedom so grand.

She prepared delicious desserts,
Her days spent in toil and trauma.
Feeling her customers' pained hurt,
She listened to their deep drama.

An old woman worn and weary,
A life helping others to bear
With laughter, she kept them cheery.
Now her turn for that kind of care.

Another's turn to bake a cake,
Her birthday at the nursing home.
Warm, well wishers too much to take,
She died later that night alone.
