A Perfect World

The world we live in
is a dangerous one.
In this world, men and women
will do anything to survive.

It is survival of the most
ruthless. The most cunning and
treacherous people are the ones
to survive. The decent ones are
cut down. The system is ruthless
and can eat a man alive.

This is the world we live in.
No one seems to care.
Self-interest governs all.
The politicians don't care.
The cops don't care. It's all about
money and power.

Nothing is sacred anymore.
Families are broken up by divorces.
Decent men are prevented from seeing
their children by a biased system
that simply does not care anymore.

Justice has become just another
meaningless word. The innocent suffer.
You hear it all the time. Decent men get
falsely accused and convicted of the most
heinous crimes. They might lose years of
their lives or their lives entirely. No
one seems to care.

There is so much suffering. Some brave people
dare to fight for their rights. Gays and lesbians
fight for the right to have what everyone wants.
A chance to be accepted in society for who they are. Good fathers and mothers make great sacrifices to take care of their children.

Decent men fight to end bias in the system. Bias hurts us all. Men and women. Blacks and whites and Asians. Straights and Gays. We need to strive for fairness if any of us is to have a chance.

Decent men and women battle terrible conditions and diseases. Everyday humanity fights off a wave of despair every single day just to survive. We are human beings. Our world and everything in it is cursed. That is our plight. Earth is not quite a living hell but if we don't stop it from happening, it may well be.

Earth is our home. The men and women down the street are our brethren. Earth doesn't have to be a hell. We can't make a heaven out of it. Yet, if we all try to do something decent for each other no matter how small everyday...things just might become bearable.

We should try to keep Hope alive.

It is, and always will be, what's best for humanity.
